Planning Minister MA Mannan, an Awami League candidate for Sunamganj-3 (Jagannathpur and Shantiganj) constituency, has been served a show-cause notice by the election inquiry committee for violating the code of conduct.
The notice, delivered through a letter signed by Joint District Judge (Land Survey Tribunal) Rashid Ahmed of Sunamganj, cites public meetings held by MA Mannan in Rameshwarpur Bazar and Barafechi Bazar, which are deemed Code of Conduct violations.
Mannan has until 10am on December 17 to respond.
The notice highlights the prohibition on election campaigns before the three weeks designated for voting, as outlined in Section 12 of the National Parliament Election Conduct Rules.
Mannan acknowledged attending the party workers' meeting but expressed respect for the law, pledging to explain as instructed.
Mannan faces competition from former parliamentarian and Trinamool BNP candidate Shahinur Pasha Chowdhury, Jatiya Party's Talukdar Md Maqbul Hossain and Taufiq Ali, Zaker Party's Md Nazrul Islam, and independent candidate Mahfuzur Rahman in the Sunamganj-3 constituency.
