The Election Commission (EC) has directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to refrain from permitting any political events, including rallies unrelated to election campaigning, until the conclusion of the 12th national parliamentary elections.
On Tuesday, EC Deputy Secretary Md Atiar Rahman sent a letter to the senior secretary of the Home Ministry's Public Security Division, outlining these instructions.
The letter from the EC emphasized that the official campaign period for the election will commence on December 18 and continue until January 5.
It explicitly stated that all non-election-related meetings and gatherings of political parties are to be prohibited during this period.
Such activities are deemed likely to disrupt election-related activities and may discourage voters from exercising their right to vote.
The letter urged the implementation of necessary measures to prevent the organization of any meetings, rallies, or other political events not associated with election campaigning from December 18 until the conclusion of the election.
