Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to start her party’s election campaign from Sylhet on December 20.
The premier will formally launch the election campaign after offering ziarat at the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) and Hazrat Shah Paran (R). Notably, before every parliamentary election, the Awami League starts its election campaign in Sylhet.
Later, the prime minister will address an election rally at Alia Madrasa ground, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader announced at a press conference on Sunday.
Advocate Nasir Uddin Khan, general secretary of Sylhet district unit Awami League, said they were informed about the prime minister's visit, and are preparing for the occasion.
Meanwhile, the city's streets have been cleaned for the last few days on the occasion of the prime minister's visit to Sylhet. Members of the law enforcement agencies are also working to ensure a safe visit of the premier.
Before the 11th parliamentary election, Awami League President Sheikh Hasina started campaigning from Sylhet on January 30.
The 12th parliamentary election is set to be held on January 7, as per the schedule announced by Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal on November 15.
