The Election Commission on Thursday directed that nobody can participate in election campaigning for the 12th national polls till December 18.
The direction comes as the Election Commission is set to allocate the electoral symbols on that day.
As per rules, the election campaign for all parties is slated to commence 21 days before the polls date and will continue until January 5, said Election Commission Secretary Md Jahangir Alam during a press briefing.
He added that the Election Commission has not yet determined the date for sending the ballots to the polling centres.
Regarding the transfer of government officials, the secretary said the Election Commission has no information in this regard,
Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal has announced the schedule for the 12th parliamentary elections, with the polls set to be held on January 7.
In a televised address on Wednesday, he also urged political parties to find a way to avoid conflict ahead of the 12th parliamentary elections and asked voters to exercise their right to vote without fear.
As per schedule, nominations are to be filed by November 30, which will be scrutinized from December 1 to 4. The last date for the withdrawal of nominations is December 17.
Symbols will be allotted to the political parties, and the election campaign will begin on December 18.
The total number of voters is about 119,700,000, and the number of polling stations is around 42,000. A total of 262,000 booths will be used for voting.
