The European Union (EU) delegation visiting Bangladesh sought information on the national election situation.
During their meeting with Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Mohammad Tofazzel Hossain Miah on Tuesday, they inquired about the election and human rights situation.
According to a press release, the principal secretary provided details about various measures taken to ensure free and fair elections in a peaceful manner.
Regarding the ongoing agitation, he clarified that activists are not responsible for it, and there are political motives behind it. A group is attempting to destabilize the situation by using innocent activists before the elections.
The principal secretary assured the delegation that Bangladesh is committed to ensuring human rights, labour rights, and workplace safety.
The EU delegation was led by European External Action Service Deputy Managing Director Paola Pampaloni while EU Ambassador Charles Whiteley was also present at the meeting.
