A total of 5,678 Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) members have been deployed to maintain law and order in Barisal and Khulna City Corporation elections.
They will act as a striking force along with polling station security.
Zahidul Islam, assistant director (public relations) of Ansar headquarters, said that Barisal and Khulna City Corporation elections will be held on Monday.
It has 126 polling stations in Barisal and 289 polling stations in Khulna. 4,980 Ansar-VDP members have been deployed for the security of these polling stations.
In addition, 318 battalions of Ansar are working as a mobile or striking force with weapons in Barisal to maintain law and order. Apart from the Ansar-VDP members, two assistant directors of the force, nine circle adjutants or upazila Ansar and VDP officers and six upazila trainers are on full-time duty.
In this regard, Barisal district Commandant Vasudev Ghosh said: “We are working under the overall direction of Range Commander Director Md Ashraful Alam. The situation is normal. Hopefully, a fair and beautiful election will be held.”
In addition, 380 battalions of Ansar in Khulna are working as a mobile or striking force with weapons to maintain law and order. Apart from Ansar-VDP members, officers of the force are on full-time duty.
Meanwhile, under the guidance of Khulna Range Commander Deputy Director General Shah Ahmad Fazle Rabi, Khulna District Commandant Md Selimuzzaman is supervising all matters of Ansar deployment in the elections.
