The polls outcome of Burichong upazila’s Sholanal union in Comilla was changed two hours after the official announcements, claims a chairman candidate.
“I won the Sholanal union ward 4 polls as the chairman on February 7,” Md Shirajul Islam, the ruling Awami League nominated candidate, told the media on Thursday.
According to him, after vote counting ended at 9pm, the returning officer announced Shirajul as the winner with 6,205 votes while his closest rival got 6,066 votes.
However, at around 12am, the returning officer said that his close competitor won with 6,166 votes.
Senior election official Manjurul Alam said that they are yet to receive a written complaint in this regard.
“We will look into the matter when we receive a written complaint,” he told Dhaka Tribune.
However, Sirajul claims that he wrote to the district administration and chief election commissioner regarding the very next day of the incident.
