‘Pre-polls violence’ leaves farmer dead in Bogra

A farmer has died in Bogra’s Sariakandi Upazila after being beaten up allegedly by supporters of a candidate at the recently held union parishad polls.

Belal Sheikh, 35, had been undergoing treatment at Mymensingh Medical College, where he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday night.

Officer-in-Charge of Sariakandi police station, Mizanur Rahman, said that the deceased was beaten up by his opponents over previous enmity centering on a land dispute.

Local people rushed him and two others injured in the attack to hospital. Belal died at the hospital at 3am.

They said that Belal had campaigned for independent chairman candidate Rashed Mosharraf in the UP polls held on January 31.
