2 BNP leaders in the running to contest Pabna 4 by-polls

Two aspirants on Sunday bought BNP’s nomination forms to contest the upcoming Pabna 4 by-election.

They collected the nomination forms from BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, said the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

The two aspirants are Pabna district unit BNP convener and party chairperson’s adviser Habibur Rahman Habib and Sramik Dal leader Ahsan Habib.

Rizvi said the aspirants will have to submit the nomination papers by 2pm on Monday to contest the by-polls with the party’s election symbol — sheaf of paddy.

Later, BNP nomination board will interview the aspirants at 5pm at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office the same day.

The by-poll to Pabna 4 seat is scheduled to be held on September 26.

As per the schedule, the last date for submitting the nomination papers is September 2, the date for scrutinizing nomination papers is September 3, and the last date for the withdrawal of nomination papers is September 8.

Pabna 4 seat fell vacant following the death of ruling party MP Shamsur Rahman Sherif on April 2 but the Election Commission could not arrange the by-polls as per the constitutional binding within 180 days due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, Nuruzzaman Biswas, chairman of Ishwardi upazila and vice president of Pabna district Awami League, has been granted the party nomination for the Pabna 4 by-polls.
