Ruling party's Dr Younus Ali Sarker wins Gaibandha 3 by-polls

Awami League candidate Dr Younus Ali Sarker has been declared as winner in Gaibandha 3 by election on Sunday.

He bagged 121,163 votes while his rival Dilara Khandaker Shilpi from Jatiya Party received 28,385 votes.

The voting in the constituency (Sadullapur-Palashbari) began at around 8am.

A total of 411,854 voters (200,746 male and 211,108 female) cast their votes at 132 polling centres with 786 booths in the constituency. Five candidates are contesting the by-election .

In order to maintain law and order during the voting, 2,500 law enforcement officials, 20 platoons each of Border Guard Bangladesh and Rapid Action Battalion, and 1,584 Ansar members were deployed.

The parliamentary election for Gaibandha 3 constituency had been postponed due to the sudden death of Oikya Front candidate Dr TIM Fazley Rabbi Chowdhury on December 19. Voting for the 11th general polls took place in other constituencies on December 30 last year.
