171 sued for Jubo League leader murder on election day

Some 171 Jamaat-BNP activists have been sued for the murder of a Jubo League leader, on election day, in Kahaloo upazila of Bogra.

The deceased’s—Azizur Rahman, 28—brother Zahidur Rahman filed the case, mentioning the names of 21 accused including Jamaat leader Zuhurul Islam, with the Kahaloo police station on Monday.

Police arrested two accused BNP activists, whose names were mentioned in the police case.

Those arrested are BNP activists Makbul Hossain, 45, and Benjar Rahman, 28, of Bagoil village.

On December 30, another two activists—UP member Nazmul Huda Duel and activist Mahbubur Rahman—were injured in the attack on Awami League activists in Paikar Union of the upazila. Of them, one is in critical condition.

According to eyewitnesses and case details, Azizur—the Juba League president of Paikar Union’s ward no 3—along with Nazmul and Mahbubur were conversing around 11am, on December 30, when the BNP-Jamaat activists passed by them.

The activists made rude comments regarding the election to Azizur, to which the Awami League leader and activists protested, resulting in an altercation between them.

The three injured Awami league activists were then taken to Kahaloo Health Complex, where Azizur was declared dead. The injured were then admitted to Bogra’s Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, where Nazmul has been kept in ICU due to his critical condition.

Kahaloo police station Officer-in-Charge Shawkat Kabir said: “Two of the accused mentioned in the case have been arrested. We are still working to arrest the remaining of the accused.”
