Voting in the 11th parliamentary election at the Narayanganj 4 constituency ended on Sunday amid festivity, with the youth population largely dominating the queue in polling centres.
The constituency was largely dominated by the ruling alliance Awami League supporters, as our district correspondent found polling agents of the major opposition BNP mostly absent at the centres.
Although in total, eight competitors took part in the electoral battle from the constituency, the ruling Awami League candidate and incumbent lawmaker Shamim Osman's supporters were present in the area while agents of Jamiat Ulema-e Islam Bangladesh leader Monir Hossain, who had competed with the sheaf of paddy symbol were absent in the scene.
Although the overall atmosphere was quite festive, reports of isolated irregularities were reported in the area.
After casting his vote in the Dharmaganj area in Fatulla, Awami League candidate Shamim Osman said: “The Almighty will decide who will win and who will lose.”
He expressed confidence in his victory and said the Awami League had large acceptance there.
BNP candidate Monir Hossain Kashemi however neither did appear to vote, nor was he seen in the area during the voting that continued from 8am to 4pm without any break.
Deputy Inspector General of Dhaka Range, Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, during a visit to the constituency, said no incidents happened in the area.
