Helal Uddin: Voters can know their polling centre details via SMS

Voters can receive their voter numbers for the 11th general election and details regarding polling centre via SMS, Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed has said.

“The commission will send SMS [short messaging service] to voters across Bangladesh on Saturday, informing them about their polling centres,” he said adding that the messages have already been drafted.

Helal said on Friday: “Voters will be able to find out their voter number, centre name, and details about their voting booth via SMS, in the same way they find out exam results.”

The election secretary added that once the SMS is sent to them, the voters would have to respond to it with their national identity card number.

A total of 104.2 million voters are expected cast their votes on December 30—from 8am and 4pm without any break-- to elect their representatives in 299 constituencies.

A total of 1,861 candidates from 39 political parties are competing in the election.
