BNP’s Kushtia 4 candidate sued under Digital Security Act

A case was filed with Kushtia court on Tuesday against BNP candidate for Kushtia 4 constituency Syed Mehedi Ahmed Rumi under the Digital Security Act over a leaked audio clip, in which he reportedly had instructed a BNP associate organization leader to instigate violence.

Local Awami League leader Akram Hasan Dulal, also the public prosecutor of the Kushtia Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, filed the case under the controversial act’s section 25 and 32 with Kushtia Senior Judicial Magistrate Court.

Nur Islam, a Tanti Dal leader in the Kumarkhali upazila’s Joduboira union, was also made a defendant in the case. Rumi, an adviser to the BNP chairperson and the district BNP unit president, reportedly had the conversation with Nur.

Judge M Masuduzzaman of the court took the case into cognizance and asked the officer-in-charge of Kumarkhali police station to investigate the matter.

The Dhaka Tribune, however, could not independently authenticate the audio.

In the case statement, plaintiff Dulal wrote that in the leaked audio, Rumi instructed Nur Islam to unleash violence.

The conversations were aired in television channels DBC News and Channel 71, the plaintiff wrote.

Meanwhile, the BNP leader alleged that the case was filed to keep him away from the election race.
