Giasuddin Quader and his son's candidacies rejected

Nomination papers of BNP Vice Chairman Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury and his son Samir Quader Chowdhury have been rejected on loan default charges.

Chittagong Deputy Commissioner, and Returning Officer Elius Hossain, made the announcement upon scrutinizing their nomination papers on Sunday.

The BNP leader submitted nomination forms for Chittagong 7 (Rangunia) and Chittagong 2 (Fatikchhari), while his son filed nomination papers to contest from Chittagong 6 (Raozan) constituency.

Giasuddin Quader, younger brother of executed war criminal Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, is now behind bars.

Meanwhile, BNP Joint Secretary General Aslam Chowdhury’s candidacy was also rejected on charges of defaulted loans.

Aslam, who submitted his nomination form to contest from Chittagong 4 (Sitakunda) constituency, has been behind bars for two years on charges of sabotage, sedition, and embezzlement.

The nominations of BNP Vice Chairman and former state minister, Mir Md Nasir Uddin, and his son Mir Md Helal, were also rejected.

Both of them submitted nomination papers for the Chittagong 5 (Hathazari) constituency. Former foreign minister M Morshed Khan's nomination papers to contest from Chittagong 8 (Boalkhali) constituency were rejected, as his electricity bill remained outstanding.

The candidacy of former BNP lawmaker, Mostafa Kamal Pasha, was also rejected. He submitted nomination papers for the Chittagong 3 (Sandwip) constituency.The 11th general election is scheduled to be held on December 30.

The Election Commission scrutinized the nomination papers on Sunday. The deadline for withdrawing candidacies is December 9.
