On Monday, the ruling Awami League asked its nomination seekers to describe their role during the 1/11 political changeover in 2007.
A section in party’s nomination form for the 11th general election included the question. However, the party’s nomination form for the 10th general polls did not.
Since 1/11, 2007, when the military-backed caretaker administration took over, Bangladesh has witnessed numerous ups and downs in the political arena, including the imprisonment of Sheikh Hasina and Khaleda Zia on corruption charges, as well as many leaders of both parties.
On July 16, 2007, Sheikh Hasina was arrested from her Sudha Sadan residence at Dhanmondi.
On June 11, 2008, she was released from a special sub-jail set up on the premises of National Parliament building, after 11 months of captivity.
