Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said the Awami League alliance’s plan will be outlined at a meeting of the executive committee—once Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina returns to Bangladesh.
Obaidul Quader, also the Awami League General Secretary made the statement, while talking to reporters, after paying his respects at the grave of Bangabandhu's youngest son Shahid Sheikh Russel—placing floral wreaths on it to mark his birthday, on Thursday, reports Bangla Tribune.
The minister said depending on the polarization of current situation, Awami League will decide whether more political parties can join the grand electoral alliance.
Responding to reporter’s question, he said: "Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB), United Front, or LDP have not expressed any interest in joining the alliance. However, parties such as Zaker Party, Islami Front, and a seven-party left alliance have shown their interest."
When asked about the activities of Oikya Front, he stated that Bangladeshi politics is witnessing a growing trend of the making and breaking political alliances. This trend might impact the upcoming national elections.
Obaidul Quader also said that BNP will not be able to create political unrest like they did in 2001.
Sheikh Russel is remembered even after 43 years after his death. On his birthday, a vow should be made to eradicate murder, killing, and terrorism from the politics of Bangladesh, the minister added.
Awami League presidium member Abdul Matin Khasru, Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Education and Human Resources Affairs Secretary Shamsunnahar Chapa, executive council member Akhtaruzzaman, and others were present at the commemoration.
After paying his respects at Sheikh Russel's grave in Banani graveyard, prayers and munajat were offered for the departed souls of everyone martyred on the night of August 15.
