Voters speak: How was the election environment?

I became a voter two years ago, and this is the first time I cast my vote. I was very excited to participate in this election, and was very happy to be able to do so without any problems. My center was Bariali Primary School. I went there in the afternoon, so voting did not take much time as most people had already cast their votes between morning and noon. The overall situation was satisfactory.

The election was held peacefully at most centres, but at a few centres the results were suspended due to unexpected incidents. That can happen in a big poll. One thing I noticed was that there were no BNP polling agents at some centres. Apart from this, the election was fair since no voter was bothered. However, followers of some councillor candidates got into scuffles. Law enforcement later brought the situation under control.

As my workplace is located in the area, I became a voter in the Gazipur City Corporation. Our factory was closed due to the election, and I cast my vote peacefully along with my colleagues. Both candidates campaigned to the best of their abilities. I was able to cast a vote for my preferred candidate without facing any problems. There was no pressure from anybody, and no one cast my vote in advance. I think it was a fair election.

“I cast my vote in the morning. My family members too voted for their preferred candidates. There was no trouble at all, but we had to wait in long queues since there was a large crowd. Adequate law enforcement agency members were deployed at the election centre. The election environment was satisfactory.  No major incidents took place.

“Voting was peaceful in our area. Large numbers thronged the election centres and cast their votes.  The mood seemed festive. The administration was alert and necessary security measures were taken. The people returned home peacefully after casting their votes. Though two or three discrepancies took place in the councillor election, there were no problems between the Awami League and BNP regarding the mayoral election.”
