DU professor receives Australian excellence award

Naadir Junaid, associate professor of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Dhaka University, received ‘Australian Alumni Excellence Award 2015 for Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships’.

Dhaka University authorities disclosed the information in a press release on Wednesday.

Australian government confers this award on select graduates of Australian universities with a view to recognising their extraordinary accomplishments in their chosen fields.

Professor Junaid received the Award on April 7 at a programme organised by the Australian High Commission at Westin Hotel in Dhaka, said the release.

Professor AK Azad Chowdhury, chairman, University Grants Commission (UGC) was the chief guest of the ceremony while Greg Wilcock, Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, was present as the special guest.

Junaid was awarded three gold medals from Dhaka University for his outstanding academic achievements.

As a Commonwealth scholar, he earned a master’s degree from King’s College, University of London. As a recipient of an Australian Government Endeavour Postgraduate Award, he earned his PhD from University of New South Wales, Sydney, the release added.
