SSC exams shifted to Feb 28, Mar 6

The government has rescheduled two papers of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examination set to be held on Sunday and Tuesday, due to another spell of 72-hour hartal called by the BNP-led alliance.

Sunday's exam will be held from 10am to 1pm on February 28 and Tuesday's exam will be held from 9am to 10pm on March 6.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid announced the new schedule in a press conference at his residence in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon.

The BNP-led alliance has been observing the strike, protesting the killings, mass arrests and torture of party activists, and the “restoration of democracy.”

BNP’s Joint Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed, issuing a press release, declared the new spell of hartal on behalf of Party Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Friday.

Previously, the exams of February 2, 4, 8, 10, 15 and 18 had to be rescheduled, and the February 12 exams postponed, because of the hartal.

This year, around 1.5 million students are taking part in the SSC and equivalent exams.

The government and the guardians of examinees have called upon the BNP and its partners to call a hartal, barring exam days, but that call has never been heeded.
