A notice instructing students not to wear indecent attire inside a Dhaka University hall of residence has sparked outcry on social media.
The authorities of Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall said a three-member committee had been formed to investigate the posting of the notice, which had not been officially sanctioned.
“The notice was put up on the walls which are not a designated place for circulating notices,” Hall Provost Prof Dr Sabita Rezwana Rahman said. “We don’t affix official notices on the wall.”

CourtesyHall unit Chhatra League General Secretary Sharjia Sharmin Shampa described the notice as “vulgar” and blamed Samajtantrik Chhatra Front activists for the act.
“The notice has been manipulated. Our hall is well organised and we have never faced any attire-related issue so far,” Shampa said. “Our hall authorities have a special kind of paper for circulating notices.”
The allegation was dismissed by Samajtantrik Chhatra Front Dhaka University unit president, Eva Mazumdar.
“Our organisation has no activist residing at Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall,” she said.

The notice says: “A distorted notice regarding the dress code of students was intentionally disseminated on different social media and online news portals.”
“This notice in question was not issued by the hall authorities,” it added.
