Rivals beat up three JU Chhatra League men

Three Chhatra League activists of Moulana Bhashani Hall unit at Jahangirnagar University were beaten up by another faction yesterday.

The three - Kishor Das, third-year student of physics, Shanto Kumar Nath, third-year student of environmental science and AKM Khairuzzaman Sanjay, third-year student of history – received injuries when they were assaulted near the main entrance to the university around 3:30pm. They were loyal to former Chhatra League general secretary of Moulana Bhashani Hall unit Aninda Baroi, sources said.

Witnesses said some 8 to 10 people beat the three up with cricket bats and stumps when they were taking tea. The injured were taken to Savar Enam Medical College and Hospital.

The attackers were alleged to be supporters of Moulana Bhashani Hall unit Chhatra League President Faisal Ahmed Shakil.

JU unit Chhatra League General Secretary Rajib Ahmed Rasel told reporters actions would be taken against those who made the attack.

JU Proctor Dr Tapan Kumar Saha said the incident would be looked into and steps would be taken afterwards.

It was alleged that the attack was in retaliation for a previous incident where Aninda Baroi’s supporters assaulted those of Shakil for establishing dominion on the campus on August 20. At least 10 people were critically injured in the attack.

The central Chhatra League committee dissolved the Moulana Bhashani Hall committee in the wake of the attack and expelled four activists, who were resident students of the dorm.
