Week-long celebration comes to end

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) unveiled its permanent campus at capital’s Ramchandrapur yesterday, during the closing ceremony of the week-long long celebration centring its 10th Foundation Day. 

Asaduzzaman Noor, Minister, Ministry of Cultural Affairs chaired the ceremony held at ULAB’s Dhanmondi campus.

After watching a documentary on the permanent campus, which is supposedly the first sustainable green campus of the country, Noor said: “Quality of education should be improved not only by GPA-5 but also through reading different books besides text books. 

“Now-a-days students are depending on internet which can give only information not knowledge,” he added.

Attending as the special guest, Professor Dr Mohammad Mohabbat Khan, member, University Grants Commission, said ULAB was successful in spreading liberal arts education

He termed that public university teachers who remain busy with consultancy by ignoring their duties, were doing “insultancy,” creating harmful impact on the education system. 

Professor Emeritus Dr Rafiqul Islam, Director, Center for Bangla Studies (CBS) said ULAB was the only university where Bangla Studies was compulsory. 

Senior Advisor to the ULAB Board of Trustees Professor Brian Shoesmith handed the “Vice Chancellor’s Excellence Award 2014.” 

The week-long celebration started on September 28 to celebrate ULAB’s 10th Founding Day which is on October 1.

A four-day long photo exhibition was held by the departments.

Vice President, Board of Trustees, Dr Kazi Anis Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor Imran Rahman, Pro Vice-Chancellor HM Jahirul Haque, Member, Board of Trustees, Ameenah Ahmed and the acting treasurer and Registrar of ULAB Lt Col Md Foyzul Islam were present at the programme.
