83% fail in Dhaka University ‘Gha’ unit test

Debacle in Dhaka University admission continues as the “Gha” (D) unit results published yesterday showed just 16.55% pass rate.

The results improved a little from the previous ones, but it was still pathetic.

A total of 87,203 students sat for the test for 1416 seats held on September 26. Out of them, 14,432 students came out successfully, taking the combined pass rate to 16.55%. The pass rate was at 17.73% for science students, 19.60% for humanities students and 13.03% for commerce students.

Four answer sheets were rejected for errors while results of candidates suspended for forgery had been postponed.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique unveiled the results around 2:45pm at the office of the Central Exam Committee. Faculty Dean and exams Coordinator Professor Dr Farid Uddin Ahmed accompanied the VC.

The results are available at the university’s website www.admission.eis.du.ac.bd. It can also be collected via SMS from any mobile operator service.

Successful students have been asked to fill in the “choice form” on the website and submit it between October 16 and 23.

Those who qualified under quotas will have to collect their forms from the dean office concerned and submit it between October 13 and 22.

Admission seekers who want the answer sheets to be reevaluated were asked to submit applications and reevaluation fees to the DU Social Sciences Dean Office within October 1.

Only 3.10% candidates passed the “Cha” unit admission test for the Faculty of Fine Arts this year.

Only two students qualified for admission to the English department under “Kha” unit admission test. The test saw an overall pass rate of 21.5%.

Talking to the Dhaka Tribune regarding admission to the English department, DU Vice Chancellor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique said the department had primarily decided to fill the seats with students who secured at least 20 marks in general English section of the “Kha” unit admission test question paper.

“The decision will be approved soon at an academic meeting,” he added.
