Odds of admission to JU 1 in 100 this year

Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities have published the 2014-15 admission test schedule for first year honours aspirants. The admission test under eight units, from September 17 until September 23, will see some 100 admission seekers vie for each first year honours seat at the university, sources said.

The JU deputy registrar [education] and central admission test conduct committee’s secretary, Mohammad Ali, yesterday said they had published the full schedule of the admission test under eight units.

The admission test of A unit, the faculty of mathematical and physical sciences, will begin on September 17.

The exam of D unit, the faculty of life sciences, will be held on September 18. The exams of B unit, the faculty of social sciences, and H unit, the institute of information technology, will be held on September 20.

The exam of E unit, the faculty of business studies, and G unit, the institute of business administration, will take place on September 21.

The admission test of C unit, the faculty of arts and humanities, will take place on September 22, and the exam of F unit, the faculty of law, will be held on September 23.

Each day the admission test will begin at 9am. Further details about the admission test are available on the JU website, sources said.

The central admission committee has fixed the number of seats under six faculties and two institutes of the university for the upcoming admission test of the 2014-15 academic session.

Sources said authorities did not increase the number of seats this year. The total number of available seats was around two thousand.

Nearly two hundred thousand applicants applied for the honours programmes at JU this year, meaning that one hundred applicants will compete for each available seat, sources added.

The JU deputy registrar confirmed to the Dhaka Tribune: “Around two hundred thousand admission seekers have applied through mobile phone registration for some two thousand seats in the university this year.”
