'Most of the pvt university authorities are thieves'

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid termed the most of the authorities of private universities of Bangladesh as thieves, who were involved in transactions of illegal money at different stages from taking approvals for setting up a university to awarding certificates to students.

Quoting TIB report on Private University anomalies he said: “Most of my respected teachers and well-wishers blamed me for taking stance in favour of corrupted private universities adding Knowingly, I took stance in favour of those thieves for taking actions against them.

“We will take stern action against 12 private universities after the verdict of the court adding the steps also would be taken against the other illegal private universities,” he said.

Addressing an award giving ceremony at Rajshahi University Senate Bhaban, the minister said they would establish six more  universities in the country immediately for spreading our higher education.

The minister also criticises the role of teachers and student of public universities that they are not responsible towards the poor people of Bangladesh.

 Quoting Art 7 of Bangladesh Constitution as people are supreme of the country, the teachers and students of public universities have a lot of responsibilities towards the whole nation causing they get their financial benefit from the 16 crore people of Bangladesh, said Nahid.

 “We need to establish a country with the spirit of our liberation war where there will be no poverty, corruption and illiteracy,” Nahid added.

We also need basic change in our education system adding our new education policy 2010 will help to introduce a new education system in Bangladesh.

Rajshahi University authorities with the assistance of Agrani Bank Ltd gave gold medal and awards among 97 students and 2 researchers from different faculties and sectors.

 In the researcher's category Prof Hasan Azizul Haque, eminent writer of the country and Prof Dr M Saidur Rahman of Bangla department of Islamic University were awarded 'Sarwar Jahan Memorial Award' and 'Sarwar Jahan Memorial Research' respectively.

From the student's categories who have acquired first position in Honours and Masters Courses since 2005 to 2010, the university awarded gold medal among 97 students under nine faculties of the universities.

Among others, RU Vice Chancellor Prof Muhammad Mizanuddin, Pro-VC Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan and Managing Director of Agrani Bank Syed Abdul Hamid addressed the programme.
