At least three crude bombs have been exploded and two buses vandalised at Rajshahi University during the strike enforced by Islami Chhatra Shibir.
The student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami is observing the strike on Thursday demanding the arrest of the culprits behind the attack on their leader Rasel Alam.
Rasel is the Shibir secretary of Nawab Abdul Latif Hall unit of the university.
Witnesses said Shibir activists vandalised two buses including one of the university at the city's Bornali intersection and university's main entrance exploding a crude bomb around 8:15pm.
Earlier in the morning, the activists exploded two cocktails in front of second administrative building while police found an unexploded cocktail at the spot.
Later, Shibir activists and police locked into a chase and counter chase at the entrance area of University's Fine Arts building when police barred their procession at around 8:30am.
Shibir activists claimed that five of their party men were injured when police fired rubber bullets at them.
Proctor Prof Tariqul Hasan said they were unable to hold the classes and examinations as the teachers and official could not enter their offices because the Shibir activists splotched the keys of offices with super glue.
Motihar police station Officer-in-Charge Alamgir Hossain told the Dhaka Tribune: “Additional police were deployed on the campus to avert further untoward situation. The situation is now under control.”
He said police arrested four students from Binodpur area adjacent to the university suspecting them as Shibir activists but their identities are yet to be confirmed.
On June 16, unidentified miscreants cut off the leg of Chhatra Shibir leader Russel at RU.
