Dhaka University has sent one of its top-level faculty on “forced leave” over allegations of ill-conduct with a female student.
Psychology Department Professor Ayesha Mahmuda has been sent on compulsory leave, Social Science Department Dean Fariduddin Ahmed said.
The decision has been taken in a meeting of the university's syndicate committee after allegations of ill-conduct, the dean told the Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday.
The professor said to have kicked psychology masters student Rukhsana Parvin and called her “mistress” over a trivial matter in front of another faculty.
Dhaka Tribune ran a report in this regard where the department's lecturer Jami-un Nahar confirmed of the verbal abuse.
Agitated students had locked up the professor for her abusive behaviour on February 20. The faculty was said to be have a reputation of such behaviour.
