Pro-AL teachers win top posts

The pro-Awami League teacher’s yellow panel won five executive committee posts in the Chittagong University Teachers Association (CUTA) election yesterday.

According to the university’s election commission sources, Professor Benu Kumar Dey of Chemistry Department achieved 381 votes and was elected as president of CUTA, defeating Harun ur Rashid of BNP-Jamaat-backed teacher’s white panel who received 227 votes. Bangabandhu Adarsha Bastabayen Parishad took part the election independently led by Professor Gazi Saleh Uddin Ahmed who received 91 votes.

Securing 451 votes, Md Rashed-un-Nabi of Institute of Marine Science and Fisheries was elected as vice-president. His opposition from the white panel, Mohammed Saiful Islam, got 227 votes. Mustafizur Rahman of Political Science was elected as the general secretary winning with 458 votes.
