Mousumi looks at her right hand and cries out loud saying that she would not be able to sit for the SSC examinations this year.
Rehana Akhter, elder sister to Mousumi Akhter, 15, made the comment to the Dhaka Tribune while describing the present condition of her sister.
Unidentified miscreants hacked Mousumi’s father Sultan Ali, 60, mother Hajera Begum, 45, her nieces Anika, 7, and Rumana Pervin, 15, to death on the midnight of January 14. Mousumi was also left gravely injured in the attack.
Mousumi, an SSC examinee from Dholdanga High School, who is undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital, cannot take part in the examination scheduled to begin from February 9 as she has yet to fully recover.
Doctors said Mousumi was not in a condition to take examinations.
Dr Shahnur Alam, who is overseeing Mousumi’s recovery, told the Dhaka Tribune that she received serious injuries to her head, shoulders and hands, adding that the fingers on her right hand were cut and the trauma on her head was rather serious.
Rehana Akhter said, considering Mousumi’s current physical and psychological condition, they had not yet informed her about the deaths of her other family members.
Rakib Ahmed, Mousumi’s brother-in-law, said the law enforcers were yet to identify the killers, and expressed concern: “We don’t feel secure.”
Headmaster of Dholdanga High School Riazul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune that Mousumi is a talented student and that the teachers hoped she would perform well.
He also said: “All examinees except Mousumi have taken their admit cards. We look at her admit card and think that what a tragic life she’s had!”
