Police arrested a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), a student wing of ruling Awami League, on Wednesday afternoon in alleged involvement with the attack on agitating students of Rajshahi University that left 100 students injured and 20 bullet-hit.
Motiher police station officer-in-charge Shamsur Nur told the Dhaka Tribune.
Police, on information, raided and held BCL RU unit vice-president, Delowar Hossain Dill, from a house in Rajshahi city's Beripara area at around 4:00pm, he said.
Delowar was shown arrest in the unnaming lists of the four cases, two of them filed by RU authorities and two by police separately, Nur also said.
Delowar was shown throwing stones during the BCL's attack on the agitating students on Sunday. He was then sent to jail after producing before the court, OC also said.
Earlier on Sunday, a general student identified as Sajeeb Ahmed, a fourth year student of finance and banking department was arrested and sent to jail after producing before court.
Motiher police station officer-in-charge, Shamsur Nur told newsmen, the investigation into all six cases had been started on Wednesday adding the cases were distributed among the investigation officers.
Earlier on Monday night about six cases were filed against 964 students naming 224 students but no Chhatra League men were made accused in the cases, according to Ajahar at Motihar police station.
RU authorities filed two cases against a total 400 students naming 100 and police filed two cases against a total of 400 students naming the 100 students while RU unit BCL filed two cases against a total 140 students naming 24.
In the cases, the leaders of the left-leaning students' organizations at RU namely Bangladesh Chhatra Union, Somajtantrik Chhatra Front, Chhatra Federation and Biplobi Chhatra Moitree were made as accused.
In the all cases, Shibir RU unit president Ashraful Alam Emon, a master's student of history department of the university also made accused, Motihar police sources said.
