43rd founding anniversary of JU observed

Students, teachers and employees of Jahangirnagar University yesterday celebrated 43rd founding anniversary of the university with glee and festivity.

Marking the day, the university authority organised a programme at the business faculty premises and brought out a rally.

The two pro vice-chancellors of the university Prof M A Matin (education) and Prof Afsar Ahmad (education) inaugurated the programme around 10am by hoisting the national flag and the JU flag and releasing balloons.

Prof Afsar Ahmed convened members of the “JU family” to come forward regardless of difference in views to promote the university.

He said: “All of us have to work jointly in order to attain the goal of this university which is aged same as our country.”    

Prof M A Matin said: “Since inception the university has been making its mark through merit and achievements both in national and international arena.

“We already have introduced several new departments and we have plans to open more to connect with the outside world.”

Different departments, institutes, students’ cultural and political organisations joined in the rally with colourful placards, posters, and banners.

Hundreds of students of JU School and College also joined the rally that marched towards the Selim Al Deen Muktomancha.

However, Prof Anwar Hossain, vice-chancellor of the university, remained absent in the celebration following agitation of a group of teachers.

The agitating teachers of the university, under the banner of “JU Teachers-Students and Officers-Employees United Forum” also brought out a rally on the occasion.
