Jahangirnagar University Teachers’ Association and General Teachers’ Forum on Saturday have jointly started an all-out movement demanding removal of the vice chancellor.
The agitating teachers of the varsity took position in front of the registrar’s building this morning.
JUTA General Secretary Prof Sharif Uddin said: “We will continue the movement until our demand is met.”
Transport services of the university remained suspended since this morning, he added.
On October 12, the agitating teachers under the banner of General Teachers’ Forum stopped VC Prof Anwar Hossain from joining the university’s syndicate meeting. During the incident, the VC attempted to enter the administrative building by force, allegedly pushing two teachers.
Later, a fraction of BCL university unit activists, led by its president Mahmudur Rahman Jony, allegedly attacked the agitating teachers, assaulting five.
On October 24, Jahangirnagar University Vice-chancellor Anwar Hossain has pledged to leave his post after the holding of elections for the student union and VC panel, both scheduled to be held by January.
Anwar also declared that he would leave JU after the elections, adding that he would not seek re-election as VC.
No Jucsu election has taken place since 1992, depriving students of a platform to express their views.
