The government has brought forward the joining date for 14,384 candidates selected for the post of assistant teacher in government primary schools following protests by the successful applicants.
According to an office order issued by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education on Sunday, the selected candidates will join their respective district primary education offices on October 1.
The order states that appointment letters will be issued in due course. After joining, the candidates will receive their postings and subsequently undergo training.
On Saturday, the ministry had announced that the newly recruited teachers would join on October 29 before receiving training.
Following the announcement, the recommended candidates declared a continuous sit-in programme in front of the National Museum in Shahbagh from 11am on Sunday, demanding that their joining date be brought forward.
They also demanded that an office order be issued by Saturday night, warning that they would continue their protest if their demands were not met.
Later on Sunday, the ministry issued a revised office order advancing the joining date to October 1.
The recruitment process began with an MCQ examination held simultaneously in 61 districts on January 9, excluding the three hill districts.
A total of 69,265 candidates qualified for the viva voce, and the final results were published on February 8. In total, 14,384 candidates were selected for appointment, with the results published district-wise.
