The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh has launched the Creative Writing Certificate Course 2026, a six-week intensive program on Writing Fiction, organized by the Department of English and Humanities (DEH). The course commenced on Friday, 19 June 2026, and will conclude with a certificate-giving and showcase event on 1 August 2026.
The program is designed for both aspiring and experienced writers who seek a supportive space to develop their craft, share their work for feedback, and explore opportunities for publication. This year's course combines theories of creative writing with extensive reading and writing exercises, allowing participants to engage directly with practicing fiction writers and learn about diverse approaches to storytelling.
Throughout the course, participants will write and workshop their own fiction pieces, receive detailed feedback during practical sessions, and refine their work for presentation at the closing showcase.
The course features an accomplished lineup of facilitators, including Prof Shamsad Mortuza, vice chancellor and professor of English, ULAB; Prof Kaiser Haq, dean, School of Arts & Humanities and director, Dhaka Translation Center, ULAB; Prof Razia Sultana Khan, fiction writer and advisor, Department of English and Modern Languages, Independent University, Bangladesh; Dr Sohana Manzoor, fiction writer and translator; Iffat Nawaz, author of Shurjo's Clan; Anmana Manishita, lecturer at BRAC University and fiction writer, shortlisted for the Commonwealth Short Story Prize 2026; and Dr Maisha Hossain, assistant professor at Francis Marion University, USA.
Since 2016, the Department of English and Humanities at ULAB has been organizing the Creative Writing Certificate Course as a platform for nurturing creative talents.
