Minister: University admissions to align with HSC schedule from 2027

Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon on Friday said university admission processes will be synchronised with the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination schedule from 2027 to reduce delays in students' academic progression.

“University admission processes will be synchronised with the HSC examination schedule from 2027 so that students do not lose valuable time,” he said.

The minister made the remarks while addressing the orientation program for first-year undergraduate students of Jahangirnagar University’s 2025–26 academic session (55th batch) at the university's Zahir Raihan Auditorium.

Emphasising the importance of developing students into skilled human resources, Milon said education should not be confined to obtaining degrees.

“Education must be linked to skills, productivity and employability so that students can make meaningful contributions to national development,” he said.

Referring to global demographic trends, the minister said many developed countries are facing population decline, while Bangladesh continues to experience population growth.

“If we can transform this large population into skilled human resources, it will become one of the country's greatest strengths,” he added.

The program was chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, who welcomed the freshers and congratulated them on becoming part of the country's only fully residential public university.

In his address, the vice-chancellor said a university is not merely a place for higher education but also a platform for intellectual freedom, cultural development and self-discovery.

Earlier, the university administration welcomed the new students with flowers. Around 2,000 students from different faculties attended the program.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof Md Shamsul Alam, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof Muhammad Nazrul Islam and Treasurer Prof Md Abdur Rob also spoke at the event.
