Court Imposes travel ban on Ex-JU VC Farzana Islam, family

A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on former Jahangirnagar University (JU) Vice-Chancellor Farzana Islam, her husband Akhtar Hossain, and their son Pratik Tasdik Hossain, preventing them from leaving the country.

The order was issued on Sunday by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Foyez following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Riaz Hossain, assistant to the concerned court bench, confirmed the development.

The petition, filed by ACC Deputy Director Khorshed Alam, alleged that Farzana Islam is involved in extensive corruption, while her husband, son, and third parties have engaged in large-scale financial irregularities related to recruitment.

The ACC petition claims that Farzana Islam and her family are attempting to transfer illegally acquired assets abroad. It also warns that if they leave the country, ongoing investigations could be seriously hampered. To ensure a proper and uninterrupted investigation, the ACC sought the travel restrictions.
The investigation into the alleged irregularities is currently underway.
