The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has upgraded government primary school head teachers to Grade 10, effective December 15.
Under the new directive, the head teachers will receive salaries and allowances according to the Grade 10 pay scale.
The move raises the existing pay scale under the National Pay Scale 2015 from Grade 11 (Tk 12,500–30,230) to Grade 10 (Tk 16,000–38,640), granting head teachers Gazetted Officer status.
Teachers have already received November salaries under the old scale, with the revised pay reflected in January salaries.
The upgrade comes after prolonged protests by head teachers demanding higher pay.
Assistant teachers, meanwhile, have yet to secure an 11th- or 12th-grade upgrade and had suspended their December protests to avoid disrupting students’ third-term evaluations.
