Following the death sentence handed down by the International Crimes Tribunal to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina for crimes against humanity committed during last year's July-August mass uprising, Ducsu (Dhaka University Central Students' Union) leaders and Dhaka University students celebrated by distributing sweets.
Ducsu arranged to broadcast Sheikh Hasina's verdict on a large screen on Monday afternoon.
Students gathered in large numbers at the TSC (Teacher-Student Centre) to watch the verdict live.
Starting from 11am on Monday, the verdict announcement proceedings were broadcast live on a big screen at the Payra Chattar of Dhaka University's TSC. Ducsu Vice President Abu Shadik Kayem shared this information through a Facebook post.
The tribunal sentenced Sheikh Hasina to death in the verdict.
At the same time, co-accused former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal was also given the death sentence. Additionally, former inspector general of police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, who became a state witness, was sentenced to five years' imprisonment.
