DU Chatra Dal leader establishes ‘Little Free Libraries’ across campus

On the occasion of National Revolution and Solidarity Day, "Little Free Libraries" were established at various locations across the campus under the initiative of Sakib Biswess, Member Secretary of Bijoy 71 Hall at the Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chatra Dal (JCD), Dhaka University chapter.

The libraries were set up at 3:40pm in the Business Faculty and TSC (Teacher-Student Centre) areas of the university.

Regarding this initiative, Sakib Biswess, member secretary of Bijoy 71 Hall Chatra Dal, said: “This initiative has been taken for those knowledge-seeking students of Dhaka University who love reading books and are eager to expand their horizons of knowledge. Particularly in our country, there has been no active library program for the past three years. Against this backdrop, we have organized a small-scale mobile library here.”

He mentioned that as a Chatra Dal activist, this library was inaugurated today on November 7, National Revolution and Solidarity Day, in memory of President Ziaur Rahman.

BM Kawsar, Joint General Secretary of Dhaka University Chatra Dal branch, said: “Bangladesh Chatra Dal always thinks about students’ welfare and tries to stand by them. In continuation of this, today’s small initiative has been taken with the aim of encouraging students to read books and develop a relationship with books.”

“Today, we have launched this program at the Business Faculty. Later, it will also be introduced at TSC and the Social Welfare Faculty. Through this, those who have some free time between classes can take books from here and read for a short while. We hope this ongoing effort will create long-term interest in reading among students.”

He further added: “Chatra Dal never believes in ‘muscle power’ politics like the Chatra League. We believe in maintaining our presence on campus by earning the love and trust of students.”
