Jagannath University (JnU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Rezaul Karim visited the Dhaka National Medical Institute Hospital on Saturday, to check on the condition of students injured during the “Long March to Jamuna” program, which was participated in by university teachers and students.
According to hospital sources, six individuals are currently receiving treatment at the hospital, including Mahatab Hossain Limon of Dhaka Post, Subarna As-Saif of Bangla Tribune, and Mehedi Hasan of the Daily Sangbad.
The JnU unit of Shibir is in the process of transferring Subarna and Mehedi to better medical facilities for advanced treatment.
Injured student and journalist Mahatab Limon said: “My lungs were infected due to the intense gas from a tear gas shell. I am experiencing occasional breathing difficulties and require oxygen support. The university administration is staying in touch with us.”
The vice-chancellor said: “Some of our injured students are still hospitalized and undergoing treatment. We are constantly monitoring their condition.”
Also present during the visit were Professor Dr Md Tajammul Haque, proctor; Professor Dr Rifat Hossain, director of Student Welfare; Professor Dr Md Belal Hossain, joint general secretary of the Teachers’ Association; Mehedi Hasan Himel, convener of the JnU unit of Chhatra Dal; AKM Rakib, president of the Chhatra Odhikar Parishad; General Secretary Raihan Rabbi; and other student leaders.
