Teachers will stand by the students until their demands are fulfilled, said Prof Dr Md Rais Uddin, general secretary of the university’s teachers’ association.
He made the remarks around 11:15am on Thursday in front of the residence of the chief adviser, Jamuna, where the protesting teachers had gathered.
“The government has not even expressed regret over Wednesday’s attack on the students. Let it be known clearly, we will not leave the streets until our children's demands are met. We are with them,” he said, urging the authorities to accept the students’ logical demands without delay.
Protesting students camped in front of Jamuna throughout Wednesday night. Their numbers began to grow again after 11am on Thursday.
Teachers also started to join the protest. They declared that they would remain on the streets as well.
Law enforcement personnel were on alert at the protest site.
