A fine art competition was organised Sunday by Strategic Actions Society (SAS), a Rangamati based NGO, marking the International Literacy Day.
According to our Rangamati correspondent, around 20 students from four upazilas participated in the competition.
A prize giving ceremony was also organised at the auditorium of Ashika Manobik Unnayan Kedra, following the competition. Five students were awarded in the ceremony by Additional Deputy Commissioner Mostafizur Rahman.
District Education Officer AKM Riaj Uddin, SAS Executive Director Lalit C Chakma, Dainik Rangamati Editor Anwarul Haq and UNDP representative Subrata Khisa were also present at the ceremony, among others.
Meanwhile, International Literacy Day was also observed in Kishoreganj Sunday, aiming to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Subrata Pal led a colourful rally marking the day which paraded different roads in the town. Different educational and government institutes, including other organisations of the district participated in the rally.
Celebrations of the day included specific themes in line with education for all initiative. The day was observed in the district with a strong emphasis on literacy and epidemics with a focus on communicable diseases such as HIV, tuberculosis and malaria, according to our Kishoreganj correspondent.
The celebration also focused on the need to raise public awareness regarding the extraordinary value of a society and of the urgency to promote a literate society.
