Prof M Nazrul Islam, registrar of Rajshahi University (RU), resigned from his post Wednesday showing personal reason.
RU Vice-Chancellor Prof Muhammad Mizanuddin confirmed that he had received a resignation letter from Nazrul Islam.
Though Nazrul resigned showing personal reason in the resignation letter, he told newsmen that he had resigned from his post as he could not perform duties smoothly for the intervention of Shahabuddin Sarker, personal secretary of the VC.
He said: “I was trying my best to discharge my administrative duty properly, but Shahabuddin was violating the university’s rules and regulation which interfered in my job; he was using undue power given by the VC which made my work very difficult.”
“Shahabuddin always misleads the VC to gain personal benefit,” he alleged.
“Though I informed the VC about the matter several times, he is yet to take action against his PS,” Nazrul also said.
Denying the allegation, Shahabuddin told reporters that he had performed his duties according to the directions of the vice-chancellor.
VC Mizanuddin told the Dhaka Tribune: “The incident might have resulted from a misunderstanding between the registrar and my PS.”
The problem will be resolved soon as I did not accept the resignation letter, the VC added.
Earlier on March 21 this year, Prof Nazrul was appointed as the registrar of the university. Four high officials, including the acting registrar, resigned from their respective posts on March 20 following the appointment of Prof Muhammad Mizanuddin as the vice-chancellor of the university.
The high officials who resigned were acting registrar Prof MA Bari, proctor Prof CM Zakaria, administrator of public relations office (PRO) Prof Chittaranjon Mishra and student advisor Dr Golam Sabbir Sattar.
