Students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) brought out a torch procession on the campus protesting the attack on the Bangladesh embassy in Agartala, India.
The students brought out a torch procession under the banner of progressive students from the Shaheed Minar premises of the university at 6:30 pm on Tuesday. The procession ended at Battala area after going through several roads of the university. Later, the students held a brief rally.
The students shouted slogans such as "Why attack the embassy, Narendra Modi answer", "Indian aggression, stand up people" etc. At this time, the leaders called for investigating the incident and taking punitive action. They called for an end to politics over religious extremism.
Sohagi Samia, an organizer of the Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, JU branch, said: "India repeatedly wanted to say that they helped us in the liberation war, as a result of which we were able to become independent. With this recognition, they have taken all the benefits they can from our country. But it is a matter of regret that the government formed after the mass upsurge did not refuse to provide the benefits that India used to get from our country during the fascist rule. The people of our country have not yet got their fair share of water. India consumes this water. Due to Indian aggression, the rivers of our country did not get normal speed. The government that came through the people's uprising has not said anything about it so far.”
Jahidul Islam Emon, general secretary of a faction of JU Chhatra Union, said: "Some local extremist Hindutva activists gathered together and attacked the Bangladeshi embassy in India. This is a direct attack on the sovereignty of our country. They should take as much responsibility for attacks on our country as they should be for attacks on our embassies.”
"I want to tell India that the tenure of your subordinate Sheikh Hasina is over. You will be wrong if you look at Bangladesh in the same way as in the past. Pay attention to the statements being spread by the students and people of this country against foreign aggression and fascism. If you do not claim responsibility for the attack within the next two working days, we will be forced to besiege the Indian embassy," he added.
