Dhaka University's Jagannath Hall authorities evicted around 100 people, mostly former students, residing illegally in the hall for long, in a drive conducted late Monday night.
The drive, led by the hall's provost, house tutors and some other officials, started at 10:30pm by closing down the central gate of the Gobindro Chandra Bhaban (the northern building) of the hall.
The authorities checked the ID cards of every student and locked twelve of the hall's rooms.
Ashim Sharkar, the hall's provost, said the hall authorities earlier circulated the notice for conducting the drive through notices and leaflets after discovering that many former DU students were still staying at the hall and there were many boarders who had never even been admitted as students.
"We will take harder steps against outsiders in the future," he added.
Dhaka University Proctor Amzad Ali said the hall provost had informed him before conducting the drive and he had sent his team to help them out.
