RU student secures CGPA 3.50 without sitting for exams

A history department student of Rajshahi University (RU) has secured first class in the first semester of his third year without sitting for the exam. The results published on October 16 astonished everyone.

However, the chairman of the examination committee termed it an unintentional mistake.

According to sources, the department's examination for the 2020-21 academic year started on May 26 and ended on June 6. On October 16, the results were published on the university website, and Sadia Afroz Maria secured a CGPA of 3.50. However, Sadia did not sit for the exams.

At first, the matter went unnoticed but on Sunday it came to the attention of other students.

Sadia Afroz Maria could not participate in the exams second-semester examination of second-year due to pregnancy. As a result, she became ineligible to sit for the following exams.

Sadia said: “I did not sit for the exams. But I don't know how my results were published.”

The president of the examination committee, Professor Abul Kashem, said the inconsistency of the results has also come to his notice.

“It was an unintentional mistake. We have been in touch with the controller of examinations. Hopefully, it will be resolved soon. Apart from me, there were three other teachers as members of the examination committee. They did the tabulation work. I signed on the finals sheet as the president,” he said.

Professor Mahmuda Khatun, a member of the examination committee, said that it was a human error. The girl did not sit for the exams, and her results column was blank. But someone else's number has been mistakenly added to that column.”
