Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Ruet) celebrated its 10th founding anniversary Sunday with much fanfare and festivity on the campus.
The day-long celebrations featured flag hoisting, tree plantation, a procession, discussions, a friendly cricket match, a cultural programme, exhibition of student projects, computer programming contests and special prayers.
Vice-Chancellor Golam Murtuza inaugurated the day’s programme by hoisting the national flag in front of the campus Shahid Minar in the morning.
Tree saplings were also planted near the graves of three former students of the university, which was formerly the engineering faculty of Rajshahi University, who were martyred during the 1971 Liberation War.
Later, a colourful procession, led by the VC and participated by teachers, students and employees, paraded through the campus. It was followed by a friendly cricket match between teachers and employees of the university.
A discussion and prize-giving ceremony was held in the afternoon.
In his speech as the chief guest, VC Golam Murtuza said in the short time since its inception in 2003, RUET had achieved many awards for its outstanding contribution to science and technology in the country.
A large number of people, meanwhile, visited the exhibition of projects put on display by Ruet students on the premises of the administration building.
The festivities concluded with a cultural function at the university’s central auditorium.
