A Chittagong University (CU) student was assaulted after being abducted at the campus on Saturday morning.
The victim, Hayat Ullah, is a student in the university's oceanography department for the 2019-20 academic year.
The incident occurred in room 324 of Shaheed Abdur Rab Hall around 9am.
Describing the incident, victim Hayat Ullah said: "I came to collect my belongings from the hall and met some friends at zero-point. Then, three individuals approached me and led me toward Abdur Rab Hall. I had no idea what their intentions were. They took me to room 324 and asked how I got into the hall, then proceeded to beat me with sticks for about ten minutes."
Hayat also mentioned: "After a while, some members of the university's proctorial body arrived and witnessed the attack."
He added that his classmates have filed a complaint with the university's proctorial body, seeking justice for the incident.
Saida Akhtar, the senior medical officer at the university's medical centre, said: "The victim had blood clots due to his injuries, and his blood pressure was elevated. We provided first aid and recommended he be taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for further examination and observation."
When asked for a comment, Chittagong University Proctor Tanvir Mohammad Hayder Arif said: "According to the information we have so far, the incident began with a verbal dispute between the student and three others while he was retrieving items from the hall, which escalated into a physical altercation. We are conducting a thorough investigation, and justice will be served based on the facts and evidence."
