6 JU teachers, students among world’s 2% top-cited scientists

Five teachers and one student from Jahangirnagar University (JU) have been recognized among the top 2% of the most cited scientists in the world, according to a survey by Stanford University.

The list, released on Monday, highlights the global impact of their research based on citations from 1965 to 2023.

The JU faculty members honored in the list are:

Prof A A Mamun (Physics), Prof M Shamim Kaiser (Institute of Information and Technology), Prof Anamul Hoque (Chemistry), Prof Md Mostafizur Rahman (Environmental Sciences) and Asst Prof Md Sayeed Al Zaman (Journalism and Media Studies)

Additionally, Mohammed A Mamun, a master's student from the Public Health and Informatics department, also secured a spot.

The list, jointly compiled by Stanford University and Elsevier, analyzed research metrics including publications, citations, and h-index across more than 6 million scientists globally. A total of 205 researchers from Bangladesh were recognized.
